What is a neighborhood association? A neighborhood association is a group of homeowners, renters, apartment dwellers and representatives from businesses, churches and schools who organize to improve conditions in the neighborhood. Each member is allowed to express an opinion and is eligible to vote on all neighborhood issues.
Are neighborhood associations successful?Yes! Determined neighborhood associations can rehabilitate housing stock, affect development plans and help ensure safety on Beaumont streets. They give neighbors a stronger voice and greater control over their own fate. Neighborhood associations are changing the face of America! They are improving the quality of life for themselves, their neighbors and their communities.
What do neighborhood associations do?Neighborhood associations get people together to establish a sense of community for residents. They plan projects and activities beneficial to the area and provide a forum for discussion of local and citywide issues. A partnership can be established with the city to help maintain neighborhood standards through code enforcement and police protection. Through neighborhood associations, residents can stay informed on city policies and procedures and can provide input on issues. Regular meetings provide a forum for discussion of local and citywide issues and initiation of projects or activities beneficial to the area. How can I start a neighborhood association?You may not have to. There are already quite a few established neighborhood associations within the city of Beaumont. But, developing a core group of three or four neighbors interested in organizing can start a neighborhood association.
There is no association listed for my neighborhood. Now what?If there is no association in your neighborhood---START ONE! For information and assistance in forming a new neighborhood association, call the Community Oriented Policing Division of the Beaumont Police Department at (409) 880-3802.
What happens after we get started? Are we abandoned?It is important that neighbors take ownership in their associations. They are the ones who are there and have the vested interest in what happens to and in the neighborhood. However, the City of Beaumont nor the Beaumont Police Department leave you by yourself with no help or direction. Any member of the Community Oriented Policing Division of the Beaumont Police Department will gladly assist in any way necessary to see that you are successful. Contact 880-3802.

Why is community building so important?There has been a rebirth of community in this country in the past 20 years but especially after the attacks on 9/11. Building community is essential to the success of any group endeavor - talking and getting to know each other, developing common goals and fostering a cooperative spirit. These meetings are a great way to meet your neighbors and meet new people.
